COURTNEY MCKEON, MBA · SHE/HER

Founder & Principal Consultant

Courtney McKeon is a social impact strategist, executive advisor, and founder of the Red Thread Collective, an independent consultancy helping organizations strengthen the connections between people, strategy, systems, and shared purpose.

Her work centers on a core belief: many organizations are not struggling from a lack of commitment or vision, but from fragmentation—across priorities, strategies, partnerships, funding structures, and decision-making. After more than a decade leading complex social impact initiatives, Courtney observed that some of the greatest barriers to meaningful change were systems that unintentionally discouraged coordination, clarity, and collective action.

She founded the Red Thread Collective to help organizations move beyond isolated impact toward more connected and sustainable approaches to change. Through systems thinking, strategic facilitation, and organizational discovery, she helps leaders identify the throughlines connecting vision to execution—strengthening the conditions that allow impact to hold over time.

Over the course of her career, Courtney has led and advised work at the intersection of strategy and implementation, including guiding the expansion of a multi-million-dollar social impact initiative from pilot to nationwide effort. She has built multidisciplinary teams, secured major philanthropic investment, and convened partners across nonprofit, healthcare, philanthropic, and public sectors to advance measurable change.

Her experience working across organizations, sectors, and leadership environments shaped a broader conviction: lasting impact depends not only on strong individual organizations, but on the ability of institutions to work in greater coordination with one another. She believes the future of social impact requires new ways of building trust, shared language, accountability, and collective movement across the systems shaping communities.

Courtney is known for helping leaders make sense of complexity—surfacing patterns, identifying leverage points, and guiding organizations through moments of growth, tension, and transformation with clarity and intention. Her work blends systems thinking, evidence-informed strategy, and deep listening, grounded in the belief that resilient organizations are not perfect, but adaptable, connected, and capable of evolving without losing the thread.

The Red Thread Collective reflects her philosophy that meaningful change emerges when the right elements are intentionally connected. She believes the most effective work begins by slowing down long enough to find the thread—and building from there.

Courtney holds an MBA from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy and Global Health from Duke University. She lives in North Carolina with her husband and four children, whose lives ground her commitment to building impact that is not only meaningful today, but holds in the systems shaping their future.

1. Align

Understand the system before changing it.

Through deep listening, stakeholder engagement, and systems-level observation, we surface how people, priorities, decisions, and experiences are currently interacting across the organization—creating a grounded understanding of the realities shaping the work today.

Outcome: Shared visibility into the current state of the system and the conditions influencing progress.

2. Braid

Connect perspectives into a shared understanding.

Using discoveries from the listening process, we identify patterns, tensions, relationships, and emerging themes across the organization. Through this synthesis process, we develop the Red Thread Alignment Map which reveals how strategy, people, resources, and decision-making connect across the system.

Outcome: A systems-level understanding of how the organization currently operates and experiences impact.

3. Clarify

Distill what matters most.

With greater visibility into the system, we identify the leverage points with the greatest potential to strengthen the work moving forward. This stage clarifies priorities, surfaces strategic tensions, and focuses energy on the opportunities most capable of creating sustainable progress.

Outcome: Clear strategic priorities and identified leverage points for meaningful change.

4. Decide

Turn insight into commitment.

Every organization reaches an inflection point—a moment where insight must inform action. Together, we help leadership teams move beyond agreement toward collective commitment. This phase focuses on aligning around what the organization is being called to become, clarifying the responsibilities required to support that evolution, and building the internal conditions necessary for change to hold over time.

Outcome: Shared commitments and a defined pathway forward.

5. Evolve

Build the conditions where impact holds.

We guide organizations in translating strategy into coordinated action by strengthening the structures, relationships, rhythms, and accountability needed to sustain progress over time. The goal is not perfection, but resilience—creating organizations capable of adapting, learning, and remaining connected through growth, complexity, and change.

Outcome: Establish systems, behaviors, and decision-making practices that support sustained progress over time.

HOW WE WORK

The Red Thread Framework

Organizations rarely struggle from a lack of effort—they struggle from fragmentation. The Red Thread Framework helps teams uncover the throughline connecting vision, people, and action so impact can move with greater clarity, coordination, and momentum.

If this resonates, we can start with a conversation.
